The Journey to Digital Wellness

From research to real-world impact

Aoife’s path into digital wellness wasn’t planned. It started with a simple observation during her doctoral research at University College Dublin — she noticed something striking. As smartphones became more common, sleep problems among young adults were getting worse. That pattern kept nagging at her, so she decided to investigate properly.

What she found over the next decade changed how she thought about technology. It wasn’t just about willpower or discipline. The real issue was that most people didn’t understand their own habits. They’d feel bad about scrolling too much, blame themselves, and then nothing would change. She realised what was missing: a practical framework. A way to actually track what’s happening, figure out why it’s happening, and build something better.

Now at UnwiredLife Limited, Aoife leads research teams developing digital detox courses for Ireland. She’s worked with over 3,000 participants — parents, teenagers, professionals, everyone. The common thread? They all wanted the same thing: to use technology on their own terms, not the other way around.

What Aoife Specialises In

Practical methods backed by years of research and real-world testing

Screen Time Tracking

Moving beyond guessing. We help you understand exactly where your phone and laptop time actually goes — the scrolling, the checking, the habits you didn’t realise you had.

Device-Free Windows

Not about cutting out technology entirely. It’s about creating specific tech-free times — during meals, before bed, first thing in the morning — that actually protect what matters most.

Analogue Alternatives

Here’s what nobody tells you: you can’t just stop scrolling and sit with nothing. We help you build a real toolkit — reading, walking, drawing, whatever actually interests you.

Sleep & Mood Impact

The science is clear: less screen time before bed means better sleep. Better sleep means better mood, clearer thinking, and real energy during the day. We help you measure and feel the difference.

Habit Formation

Willpower doesn’t work. What works is building new habits that stick. We use cognitive behavioural techniques and practical habit-stacking to make changes that last.

Personalised Strategy

There’s no one-size-fits-all approach. Your triggers aren’t someone else’s triggers. We help you design a plan that fits your actual life, not some imaginary perfect version.

“The gap between knowing screen time is bad and actually changing your habits is enormous. Most people don’t need more information — they need a realistic plan. That’s what I’ve spent twelve years building.”
